In Loving Memory ~
Reuben Dennis Voth, aged 88, has departed for an extended fishing trip with his beloved family and friends in heaven. He passed away peacefully on June 22nd, 2023, from congestive heart failure, with family members by his side and his caretakers at Gateway Complex Care in Prince George, who loved him like family.
Reuben was born in Hepburn, Sask. on February 7th, 1935, to Tobias John Voth and Louise Alice Voth (nee Gossen).
He was predeceased by his parents and all of his immediate family and their partners: George and Kay Voth, Catherine and Bill Loewen, Helen and Cornie Boldt, Ted and Lorraine Voth, as well as his first wife Josephine Voth-Doan (nee Goertzen) and his two sons Monty and Terry Voth.
Reuben's remaining children and their partners were very much loved: Julie and Hubert Giese, Lori and Don Ruggles, Richard Voth and Corey Voth. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was separated from his 2nd wife, Beverly Playfair who he loved dearly as well as many members of her family.
Reuben was raised on his parent's farm and went to school in Hepburn. As he saw the struggles that farmers faced, he was determined to go into some other line of business and after he married in 1955, he started working in construction, which after a few years, led him to get his plumbing and gas-fitting tickets and start his own business.
He owned RD Voth and Sons Mechanical Contracting in Prince George for many years. He moved to Edmonton for 2 years where he taught gas fitting at NAIT and from there, moved to Fort St James, BC where he worked at Canfor, while he continued to do residential contract work.
The family initially moved into their weekend cabin which he improved into a 'very large cottage'.
Reuben loved the outdoors and his children often thought of him as a Big Bear, messy but very lovable. He was happiest outside working on some project or on the boat fishing or helping friends and family out. He had a huge heart and was loved by almost everyone who knew him. He was always looking for some new way of getting out to hunt and fish and got his pilot's license in 1991.
After he married a second time and moved into town, he started a second cabin out at Manson Creek and made a 'little escape' there, when the 'bear' needed to be left alone. He often said he could be a hermit without too much trouble, just like his uncle Wilfred.
He was a man who needed no frills. He loved a good laugh, a nice hug, and a good cold drink with family and friends. There will be no service by request. He desired to have his ashes spread over his favourite fishing spot.
One thing he wanted people to know before he passed was that he hated no one and he was not interested in keeping scores. If you had done him wrong, he had already forgotten about it, and if he ever did you wrong, he hoped you would feel the same.
He was a very special man, and we know his Heavenly Father will have a boat ready and be pointing him to the best fishing spot. Save some for us Dad!
We love you.
