Fort St. James RCMP responded to 88 calls for service through the week
Police responded to five complaints of suicidal persons, some of which were apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for care and assessment.
Police responded to two high separate high risk missing persons cases involving youth. All available resources were put toward these investigations and thankfully both cases resulted in the youths being found safe. One returned home and another was located by police in another jurisdiction.
Police responded to two high risk calls involving firearms which were resolved safely with no injury to police or public and charges in one incident are being sought for unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Police seized several firearms throughout the week during investigations as a result of the gun owners being in unlawful possession of a firearm by not having a valid PAL (Possession acquisition license)
Police are advising the public of two new incidents of fraud.
Fort St. James responded to two complaints of inappropriate FaceTime calls. Two different people reported receiving sexually explicit and or inappropriate FaceTime phone calls with video from an email address of nadinesamante@yahoo.com It was confirmed through the National Anti-Fraud hotline that this email address is not local, these are random calls to the victims from someone around the world. If you receive these calls, you can block the caller and report it to the National Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca
On Friday June 8, 2017 Fort St. James Detachment took 9 complaints from local residents saying they have received calls from someone by the name of Officer Ryan, saying they have to pay their bill to Revenue Canada or he will come arrest them. The RCMP will not come collecting for Revenue Canada under any circumstance and this is absolutely a false and fraudulent call. Revenue Canada will contact you by letter if you owe money. The Fort St. James RCMP does not have any officer named Ryan currently so please know this is false and hang up and block the caller.
On Wednesday June 1, 2017 at 1:09 am police attended to a residence on Lower Road for males fighting. Two adult males were intoxicated with signs of injuries and both were arrested for causing a disturbance by fighting and lodged in cells to sober up and end the fighting. Neither wished charges and they were released when sober.
On Saturday June 3, 2017 police responded to a complaint of a stolen John Deere Grader that had been left in the ditch up North Road near the 10 km marker. Several witnesses came forward to say they had witnessed a male operating that grader and provided descriptions. That same grader was then reported as being involved in a fender bender and again the operator of the stolen grader was identified. The value of the grader is estimated at $150,000
Police are seeking an arrest warrant for charges of theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and mischief for a Fort St. James area adult male.
On Wednesday June 7, 2017 at 10:03 pm, police responded to an assault with a weapon on 3rd Avenue East. The caller reported a male entering a house uninvited, eventually chasing the homeowner out of the house brandishing a knife, trying to stab them. The male was taken into custody without incident a short distance away and charges of assault with a weapon and fail to comply with probation have been laid and the adult male from the Fort St. James area is currently in custody.
