Sinking kayak rescue by Fort St. James RCMP

A couple of week’s ago, on Friday September 9, at 1:30 p.m., Fort St. James RCMP were called to assist a male on Stuart Lake who’s kayak was sinking and he was in desperate need of assistance. He had contacted a friend stating he was in Stuart Lake about 1 kilometre from the marina and his kayak was taking on water sinking, and he could not make it to shore.

A couple of week’s ago, on Friday September 9, at 1:30 p.m., Fort St. James RCMP were called to assist a male on Stuart Lake who’s kayak was sinking and he was in desperate need of assistance. He had contacted a friend stating he was in Stuart Lake about 1 kilometre from the marina and his kayak was taking on water sinking, and he could not make it to shore.

Cst. Boulianne and Cpl. McWhinnie responded swiftly on the Titan Vessel, and quickly located the male in the lake hanging onto his sinking kayak.

The male was conscious and wearing a life jacket, and officers pulled him and his kayak from the water onto the Titan, and returned him safely to the Cottonwood Marina, where his friend was waiting for him.

The male, age 54 from Fort St. James, stated that he had been out for a short period of time before his kayak starting filling up with water and sinking from a small hole on the side, so he starting phoning friends which eventually led to the RCMP being contacted.

He was tired but had no injuries and was not in need of medical attention and thankful for the rescue.
