It was another huge success on Canada Day weekend as 380 participants took to the water on Stuart Lake in Fort St. James.

“It was a good time and a good turnout this year,” said Rosa Anne Howell from the Fort St. James Chamber of Commerce.

First prize of $7500 went to Josh Hallman whose catch weighed in at 8 lbs 7 oz.

Tim Boyes won second prize of $5000 with a fish weighing 6 lbs, 8 oz.

And this isn’t the first time for Boyes.

Just a few weeks ago, Boyes and his wife won first place in both the men’s and women’s Father’s Day Fishing Derby in Binche.

“I am still in shock,” Boyes said.

“I have never weighed in at a fishing a derby before and never mind two of them in the same summer. I guess it’s just my lucky year. I was never concerned about weighing in or winning a derby.”

Third prize went to Jeremy Johnson who won $2500 with a fish weighing in at 6 lbs, 6oz.

All in all, the popular fishing derby in Fort St James brought out old and new comers who were all about some old fashioned fun and fishing.

And for Boyes, this couldn’t have been more true.

“For me, it was all about good times with my wife and my friends,” Boyes said.
