Taxi is back

Fort St. James has a taxi service again, in time for holiday parties

Those without wheels and those spending an evening at the pub once again have an option in Fort St. James and area.

With the disappearance of the Fort Taxi and Delivery when the owner/operators moved from the community, people have been left at the curb and having to find other means to get home.

But Tammie Joyal and Mark Copley have brought back taxi service to the area, servicing the Fort as well as trips to and from as far away as Prince George, Vanderhoof, Burns Lake and Tache.

“It’s an urgent public need for our community,” said Joyal, who also said the large number of both seniors and youth in the area without vehicles or licences makes this need even greater.

New drinking and driving penalties may also have impacted the demand for the service.

The new taxi service is operating out of the same building as the Greyhound bus station and started up on Nov. 23.

Joyal and Copely had applied to get the necessary permits and licences back in mid-October, and just recently received the necessary approval.

They have two vehicles on the road operating at this point, and hope to have two more to fill out their licence within the next six months to a year.

The service is operating seven days a week, starting at 6 a.m. except on Sunday, when they start at 8 a.m. and running until midnight Monday to Thursday, until 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The business can be reached during these hours at: 250-996-8339.
