There’s an app for northern B.C.

Traveling in and around Northern British Columbia just got easier, thanks to an innovative free application just launched by Northern British Columbia Tourism.

The new “Northern BC” app helps users find the basics of what to do, where to eat, and where to stay, but also uses Smartphones’ built in GPS function to tell users what is nearby, and even direct them there. The Northern BC app is available on three platforms, iPhone, iPad and Android, and a mobile website acts as a catchall for other platforms.

Project manager, Clint Fraser, said, “Travelers are becoming more technologically savvy and increasingly reliant on the information they access from mobile devices. The Northern BC app provides instant access to travel information, assists in decision-making, and ultimately enhances visitors’ experience while traveling in our region.”

The information in the Northern BC app is also useful to local residents, for things like finding restaurants and things to do.

The app was developed in partnership with five of the region’s destination marketing organizations. Tourism Dawson Creek, Tourism Prince George, Tourism Smithers, Kermodei Tourism and Tourism Prince Rupert all provided partnership funding and input for the project.
