Dear Mr. Rustad

Editor,

Re: Aboriginal group vows to fight permits, Caledonia Courier August 7 2013

“Nechako Lakes MLA and Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation Minister John Rustad was asked to comment on the situation but he was unable to. He said that he wasn’t the right person to ask and after explaining the process the permits must go through, he said that was all he knew about it.”

Seriously, John.  Who would you suggest is the “right person to talk to” – the Minister of Housing?

You can’t dodge this one, for two reasons. You are the Minister of Aboriginal Relations. And this is happening in your riding.

How can you not be the “right person to talk to”?

Can you explain that to me.

Unless, of course, you don’t want to talk about it and prefer to say nothing until your government caves in and supports the pipeline once they get what they want from the federal government.

You represent all constituents of this riding, and you have a legislated duty to them.

I’d say it’s about time you started listening to them, because many are telling you that Enbridge and their pipeline are not welcome in your riding.

It may be just the start of your term as minister but one thing about folks from the Fort, we have long memories, and we don’t forget when someone fails to stand up when they should have.

Perhaps you should be moved to another ministry where they don’t ask questions that confuse you.
