On Saturday, March 16th, The Chuntoh Education Society met at the base of the Nyan Wheti Trail, situated in Fort St. James, BC.

Lindsay Jennings, the executive director of Chuntoh, alongside local Elder Jo Anne Leon, led two groups on a 750 meter trek into the wilderness, delving into the practices of trapping and snaring while learning about our indigenous fur-bearing animals.

Upon reaching their destination, attendees were treated to freshly made Bannock and jam, and students were tasked with the challenge of igniting fires in the snowy terrain using flint or magnifying glasses.

This event is part of the ‘Az Nuhoolyeh - play outside’ initiative, designed to encourage outdoor engagement among the younger generation, with next month’s event set to focus on the art of tapping trees.
