Drone show to replace fireworks at this year's Riverboat Days

Organizers excited about welcoming Ontario-based North Star Drone Shows to annual summer festival
North Star Drone Shows will be performing at the finale of Terrace Riverboat Days on Aug 11 2024.

In an exciting addition to this year's Riverboat Days festivities, organizers have announced the debut of a drone show, replacing traditional fireworks for the finale.

Brian Downie, president of Riverboat Days, revealed that the decision to feature a drone show came because of the absence of a fireworks sponsor this year.

The drone show, scheduled for Sunday, August 11 at Christy Park after dark, promises to be a visually stunning experience with 100 drones creating animated patterns in the night sky, according the organizers.

Downie expressed enthusiasm about the innovation, citing the reduced noise pollution and unique digital animations that will showcase local landscapes and iconic imagery.

"When people will see the formations, I'm sure they will be quite excited by them. It'll be a really memorable experience," he said.

Considering the lack of parking space at Christy Park, those who walk or cycle to the park will get a chance to enter themselves in a draw and win prizes.

North Star Drone Shows, an Ontario-based company is known for their impressive displays at events such as the CNE in Toronto, Grey Cup, Niagara Falls and many more.

The introduction of the drone show, Downie said, has been well-received by local businesses, who stepped up to sponsor the event without impacting other festival activities.

Riverboat Days, a 10-day celebration starting on August 2, will feature a variety of family-oriented activities including a parade, concerts in the park, and community-sponsored events. Organizers are optimistic about the turnout and invite residents and tourists to visit the festival's official website for updates on schedules and participating vendors.
