The Terry Fox Run, an annual event supporting cancer research, took place on September 15, in Fort St. James.
Held at Cottonwood Park, the run saw over three dozen participants join together in memory of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope.
Event Coordinator Ralph Willick was on hand showcasing a range of t-shirts and memorabilia for participants. Local entertainment was provided by Joe Fugle, while a table with free stickers, tattoos, and wristbands delighted the kids. The presence of Sweet Scoops, a local ice cream truck, added a sweet touch to the event, drawing a crowd with its complimentary music and treats.
Willick, who has been organizing the event with his wife, Maria, for the past three years, said this year’s run raised approximately $1,400, with hopes to increase that amount by the end of the week.
Talking about the personal significance of the event for community members, Willick said, “We continue to organize the event annually just because I don't think there's a person out there that's not affected one way or another by cancer or knowing someone that has it.”
Community members and businesses still have the opportunity to contribute. Donations can be made by contacting Willick via Facebook, where further updates and posts about the event will be shared. Donors will receive a tax receipt in the mail.
