UPDATED:
According to the unofficial election results, Bev Playfair has been elected the new Mayor of Fort St. James with 52.7 per cent of the vote.
Playfair spent election night in council chambers, watching the vote count unfold.
“I’m very excited,” says Playfair. “I’m ready to get going and get some work done.”
She says next the new council and mayor will be inaugurated and from there, she says she’s got a lot of reading ahead of her to get caught up and up to speed. She plans to start by reading the Local Government Act and the Community Charter.
Playfair says she was able to be “cool” for most of the day, but since the results were announced she has been overwhelmed with texts and phone calls of support.
One incumbent and three new faces were also elected to the district council. They are: Paul Stent with 403 votes, Judith Greenaway with 292 votes, Corey Gingrich with 270 votes, and Jennifer Howell with 242 votes.
