There have been some problems with the misuse of 9-1-1 since it came online locally. Hang-ups and accidental calls have been keeping emergency services and operators busy with follow-up procedures. The RCMP would like to remind people to stay on the line when 9-1-1 is accidentally dialed, so they can confirm with an operator there is no emergency. In addition, parents who give their children de-activated cell phones to play with should remove the batteries as well. Even cell phones without active minutes or plans can still connect with 9-1-1.
