Campfire confusion

A Canadian Press news story saying campfires are banned in British Columbia has caused confusion.

A story by Canadian Press which stated dry conditions in B.C. have led to a burning ban which includes campfires has caused a bit of confusion.

Announcements on the radio and visible in the community are incorrect, and while municipalities can create their own burning restrictions which  may or may not include campfires, no campfire ban is in place within the Prince George Fire Centre.

Campfires are still permitted throughout the province, but must be maintained at less than 0.5 m in height and diameter.

Open burning, however, is restricted throughout the province and includes fireworks.

For further details on burning categories and restrictions and the most up-to-date fire information, go to the Wildfire Management Branch website.
