It’s 172 kilometres to Burns Lake, and students from David Hoy Elementray hope to cover that distance on skates.

“We’re going to skate enough laps (of the outdoor oval) to get to Burns Lake,” said Illene Beneson, a teacher at David Hoy, and the driving force behind the event.

Each kid skating will bring a loonie to the event that will go towards helping those in need in Burns Lake.

The idea sprung from a similar skate that the community did in the past, where people from all over the community came to log enough miles to get to Vancouver.

“We had so much fun the last time with the community,” said Beneson. “this time we thought it would be really nice to do it for something, so we chose the Burns Lake Relief Fund.
