It was a sunny day at Cottonwood Park in Fort St. James as volunteers prepared for a barbeque to celebrate all that public works and the R.C.M.P. do within the community.

Public Works and Police Week both take place on May 15-21.

The District of Fort St. James held the event which brought out local employees from Public Works and officers from the local R.C.M.P. detachment.

“It’s important that we recognise the contributions made this week here in our community and throughout B.C.,” Mayor Rob MacDougall said.

“This is especially a busy time. I don’t think people realise what it takes to keep a community running. Things can change at a moment’s notice and we are very lucky to have such a dedicated crew.”

The event was complete with food, refreshments and live music from local singer, Sam Holden.

“These aren’t the easiest of jobs. These people need to be appreciated for their outstanding commitment to the community, “MacDougall said.

“They do their best and we do get the best out of them.”
