Cariboo Gold Rush Marathon, which takes place on Feb. 12 near 100 Mile House, is building up to be an exciting day for skiers.

Race chairperson Nicola Maughn says she expects to have 200 participants who will provide a colourful spectacle when the start gun goes off.

The multi-distance classic race, which includes 50-kilometre, 30k, 20k, 10k and four-kilometre distances gets underway at 9 a.m. with a mass start at the 99 Mile Ski Trails stadium.

The focus this year is on family fun, so there’s no need to feel intimidated by the thought of racing.

There is a 10-kilometre recreational distance and a four-kilometre distance for children during which parents can accompany them.

Even if you have only skied a couple of times this season, come out, have some fun, ski the marathon and get free entrance into the dance of the year and awards presentation event at the 100 Mile Community Hall.

All who enter the marathon will be eligible for some super draw prizes, but skiers must be at the dance to claim draw prizes.

There are more prizes to be won, as there will be the Best Beard Competition to be judged and awarded at the dance, and there will Best Costume prize at the dance, with names going in a draw for a fabulous prize.

For the more competitive skiers, there is “gold” to be won, as there will be $250 cash prizes for the fastest male and fastest female - 50 km; fastest local male and female - 50 km; and fastest male and fastest female - 30 km.
