Prince George RCMP are handing over control of an investigation into a residential fire near Hixon, B.C., following the discovery of human remains.

On Monday June 10, fire investigators from the Prince George RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner sifted through the site of a residence that was completely lost to fire over the weekend.

During the search, human remains were located, but no evidence that would support a homicide investigation was found.

The Prince George RCMP will be handing over control of the investigation to the BC Coroners Service.

Just before 3:30 p.m. on June 8, 2013, the Prince George RCMP received a report of a residential fire in a rural area near Hixon, B.C., approximately 60 km south of the city.

Officers attended and found the home fully engulfed in flames. Two occupants are known to reside in the residence.

The first occupant, an adult female, was not home at the time of the fire and has been located safe.

The second occupant, an adult male, had not been located, and may be the remains found at the scene, but further tests will be required to confirm the identity of the deceased.
