Lightning sparks 24 fires in Prince George Fire Centre

Lightning storms passed through the Prince George Fire Centre on Sunday, causing 24 new fire starts.

Lightning storms passed through the Prince George Fire Centre on Sunday, causing 24 new fire starts. Twenty three of these fires are in the Fort Nelson Fire Zone and one is in the Prince George Fire Zone.

The largest fire is in the Liard River are of the Fort Nelson Fire Zone and has reached 150 hectares in size. Wildfire Management Branch staff are monitoring the fire and air tankers are being used to decrease fire activity.

Fire officials are working to prioritize the new fires and crews are currently fighting all but five of them. The fire in the Prince George Fire Zone is now out.

The public is reminded that Category 2 and 3 burning, as well as firework use, are currently prohibited throughout the Prince George Fire Centre. Continue to check http://bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/Bans.asp for the latest news on burning restrictions.
