Ness Lake Fire

Ness Lake Bible Camp, sister camp to Echo Lake, is set to begin the new year

Ness Lake Bible Camp, sister camp to Echo Lake, is set to begin the new year without a gym due to a fire on New Year’s Eve which burned the gym to the ground.

The fire started at approximately 9:45 p.m. on December 31st in the midst of Ness Lake’s New Year’s Camp.

The resulting evacuation of the camp was pulled off well, and as a result no one was injured in the fire.

Local firefighters, however, were unable to save the building.

“It was a complete write off.” said Will Born, the Interim Executive Director. “It burned right down to the ground.”

The gym was the electrical hub of the camp, so efforts are now being concentrated on finding a new electrical hub for the camp and getting power back to the cabins.

Once it was decided the gym was beyond saving the firefighters turned their focus to keeping the fire from spreading.

“Our focus was then  spent on watering down the dining hall and the first cabin in the line,” said Born.

The firefighters were successful in keeping the damage contained.
