Preliminary inquiry into northern B.C. murder set for June 2025

A preliminary hearing will be held in Prince George in relation to a shooting death in September of 2024 in Mackenzie, B.C.

Drake Kerr, of Mackenzie, B.C., remains in custody, as he awaits the date for a preliminary inquiry into second degree murder charges.

The preliminary inquiry into the charges is scheduled for June 10-13, 2025 in Prince George Law Courts. Preliminary inquiries are hearings which examine the evidence in a case in order to determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial in serious criminal cases. 

He had been sought by police after a shooting in Mackenzie on Sept. 29, 2024 which resulted in the death of one man originally from Fort St. James.

RCMP investigators were searching for Kerr starting on Oct. 1, 2024 in relation to the shooting death and arrested him on the weekend of Oct. 5, 2024.

Evidence disclosed in preliminary inquiries is subject to a publication ban.
