Rooms with a view - Mount Milligan homes incentives for potential employees

Townhouses owned by Mount Milligan on Stuart Drive remain vacant, but at least one is spoken for.

Townhouses owned by Mount Milligan on Stuart Drive remain vacant, but at least one is spoken for.

According to Jocelyn Fraser,  director of corporate responsibility for Thompson Creek Metals, the 12 homes were constructed in their scenic location across from Cottonwood Park “to support our efforts to recruit people who want to live in the local community.”

The townhouses are ready for occupancy, and at least one new employee has taken the company up on the offer.

The employee is believed to be moving in next month, but so far is the first person in the fourplexes.

The homes are only offered to Mount Milligan employees, but Fraser said employees who already live in the community who were interested could also be considered.

It had been proposed by community members working on physician recruitment for one of the homes to be used by physicians.

While there has been some discussion internally about opening up the homes to help out with housing needs in the community, Fraser said the decision is at this point to use them for continued recruitment efforts.

“We’ve still got 200 permanent positions to fill and we think that those townhouses are in a beautiful location and they’re very nice, we do see them as offering quite a strong incentive for people to live within the community,” said Fraser. “We’re certainly sensitive to the interest of the community to get a doctor, that’s key, and … maybe there’s some other ways that we can support that effort.”
