The Fort in the dark

A faulty substation had a Fort St. James and area out of power for most of Tuesday's afternoon.

A power outage had all of Fort St James, Yekooche, Tachie, Pinchi and Middle River in the dark last week.

The power went out just before one o'clock on Tuesday, Jan 24, then briefly back on again for about a half hour at three before going out again. The power was restored just before 5:30 and did not go out again.

According to BC Hydro an equipment problem in the Fort St James substation caused a fault that tripped the transformer that supplies power to the area. BC Hydro initially restored power and the transformer tripped again. They then did some switching in the substation to route power through a second transformer in the substation to restore power. They are currently investigating the problem so they can switch the Fort St. James area back to it's original transformer.

Many stores stayed open for cash purchases during the blackout, though Overwaitea and Sana'aih were both closed.

Schools remained open for usual hours, and buses ran at usual times.
