Friends and teammates, Colby Wilson and Cailen Saharchuk are waiting.

They are waiting in anticipation to hear the results from the U16 high performance female hockey session where they both participated in Salmon Arm, B.C.

The session took place from April 13-17 and it was a thrill for both girls to take part.

“It went really well. I think I did pretty good. It was a really neat experience,” Wilson said.

“During the U16’s, they give you a ranking, then you might be put in the U18 session for the summer. We’ll find out in a couple weeks if we made it,” Wilson said.

The 15-year-old has been playing hockey since she was five.

“I just put on a pair of skates one day and I never stopped,” Wilson said.

As a goalie, Wilson loves the rush and speed of the game.

“It feels so good to make a good save and I love being on a team where everyone makes an effort. We all work together as a team.”

Wilson, along with teammate Saharchuk, plays for the Prince George Female Bantam Rep. Hockey Team.

The team recently made it to the provincials where they won fifth place.

Saharchuk too, was five years old when she began playing hockey.

The right winger says that her dad really wanted her to give the sport a try.

“It really is fun. I like being on a team and I love the competition,” Saharchuk said.

When not playing hockey, both girls attend Fort St. James Secondary School where Wilson enjoys playing soccer and Sahurchuk has a passion for science.

“The U16 session was a great experience,” Saharchuk said.

“We can’t wait to hear how we did.”
