Charles Garfield Bird

BIRD - Charles Garfield passed away in Prince George Regional Hospital on December 19, 2005. Charlie was born December 3, 1923 in Zealand Station York County, NB. He served in the Carlton York regiment 1st Division during World War II. He worked in the forest industry for many years and also worked as a maintenance man with School District 56 (Ft. St. James) for twelve years. In 1986 Charlie retired and moved to Prince George. Charlie enjoyed the north and its special people and would never have considered living or working anywhere else, although he was loved and respected wherever he went. Charlie was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Madeline of 40 years, son Mike (Carol) of Ft. St. James; Stepson George (Joan) Crowe of Prince George. Charlie was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Survived by sisters Mildred Hanson of NB; Nelda (Ron) Targett of NB; Carlene (John) Tranquilla of NB, Gloria (Robert) Dickinson of Kirkland Que. and sister-in-law Darlene (Fred) Snaychuk of Prince George. Predeceased by: Daisy, Donald, Gerald, Geraldine and Roland. There will be a private Memorial Service by request. Interment at the Prince George Municipal Cemetery will be held at a later date.
