February 2, 1930 - February 28, 2021
With heavy hearts we announce that Irene Eloise Johnson passed away at the age of 91 on February 28, 2021 in Fort St. James after succumbing to intestinal cancer.
Irene will be greatly missed by her husband, John Johnson and children; Marilyn (Larry), Kevin (Mellody), Royce (Connie), Brett, and Janine.
She is also missed by her nine grandchildren, Kirsten, Lars, Abra, Raschell, Callie, Garrett, Linden, Hayden, and Annika, as well as one great grandchild, Jiles, plus her two surviving sisters and one brother.
Irene was born on February 2, 1930 and raised on a dairy farm in Smithers, B.C. which became a favourite playground for her growing family after she married John Johnson in 1953. Fort St. James became their home for the next 67 years.
Irene worked hard raising five children while maintaining their home at the New Caledonia Motel. John was also in the sawmill business and later developed Cinnabar Resort on Tezzeron Lake. They both achieved their goal of building a beautiful home on the shores of Stuart Lake which they enjoyed for 47 years, holding many family celebrations.
Irene encouraged and loved her family dearly. She showed love through her cooking and provided a welcoming home for all who entered. Mom also loved to garden, knit, and sing, especially her favorite song, "Que Sera, Sera, What Will Be, Will Be." Irene will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
We are very grateful to Dr. Christine Igbinosa, as well as the kind nurses and staff at the Stuart Lake Hospital where she received the very best of care throughout her last month. A Zoom Celebration of Life is planned for the end of March.
