Lillian Carnell

passed away December 17th, 2011 at the Penticton hospital at the age of 100. Lillian is pre-deceased by her husband Charles, her long-time partner John Powney and her daughters Judy and Janet. Lillian is survived by her son Jim, grandchildren Heidi (Brent), David (Theresa), Jay (Karen), Jenifer, and seven great-grandchildren.

Lillian was born in 1911 in Pincher Creek, Alberta. In 1940 she and Charles moved north to Fort Saint James, British Columbia where they operated a restaurant and hotel for several years. While in Fort St. James, Lillian touched many serving as a school teacher, village counselor and Mayor of Fort St. James. In 1974 she retired and moved south to the Okanagan, living in Okanagan Falls and Penticton. In addition to her family, Lillian will be remembered by the many individuals with whom she crossed paths over her long and colourful life.

Lillian’s wishes are for her ashes to be spread in Fort St. James, which will be organized this summer. Anyone wishing to attend can contact Jay Greenfield (jay.greenfield@shaw.ca) for information.
