B.C. NDP Leader John Horgan and Green Leader Andrew Weaver announced an agreement paving the way for a new NDP minority government supported by the Greens.

The announcement of a NDP-Green accord is encouraging news for British Columbians who want to see a prosperous economy, thriving communities, and healthy families in tomorrow’s B.C. Through cooperation, John Horgan and Andrew Weaver have a historic opportunity to build a strong, future-proof, and inclusive B.C.

In this election, British Columbians have asked for change. With our vision for clean growth in B.C., we are calling on the next B.C. government to build a clean growth economy in accordance with five key priorities: build a strong clean tech sector, position B.C. to be competitive in the changing global economy, make clean choices more affordable, stand up for healthy and safe communities, and grow sustainable resource sector jobs.

The new government must reverse the trend of inadequate clean growth policies that we saw under the B.C. Liberals’ watch. We’re pleased that both the NDP and Greens promised to address B.C.’s rising carbon pollution and build a strong and resilient economy. Raising the level of ambition of climate action in B.C. is imperative for the province to secure economic prosperity, protect our families and communities, and do its part in reducing Canada’s carbon pollution.

We look forward to seeing further details in the four-year confidence and supply agreement, when it’s released tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Josha MacNab

B.C. director at the Pembina Institute
