Student awards were handed out at Fort St. James Secondary School on June 15, with many students recognized for their achievements.

The Nechako Community Arts Council is to host a special event in Beaumont Provincial Park to celebrate the 100th birthday of BC parks. The Park, located east of Fraser Lake, will become a cultural hub for the day on July 16 with a number of musical, literary and visual arts being made available.

Some people will do anything for money, but would most people shave their heads for money for someone else? Trey Prince would and he did, after fundraising over $4,000 in just a few weeks for the charity Balding for Dollars, which helps families with sick children with their expenses during treatment. Trey had his head shaved in Vancouver at the Children’s Hospital in May.

Nine-year-old Emma Kossey recently won the honour of Fire Chief for a Day, and while she didn’t get to drive the new truck, she did get a ride home in Engine 11 from school.

At 86, Henner Grimm has had his second knee replacement surgery, and while during the recovery he has slowed down a bit, he still maintains an enthusiasm for his life on Stones Bay.

A private search to find a missing local woman is still ongoing more than three weeks after her disappearance. Madison Scott, 20, left Vanderhoof on Friday May 27 with the intention of camping overnight at Hogsback Lake, 25 kilometres south of Vanderhoof.
